Azithromycin Dihydrate
Azithromycin is an antibiotic which is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. It is an acid-stable Macrolide antibiotic that inhibits microbial protein synthesis. It prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting translation of mRNA. Nucleic acid synthesis is not affected. It has well established pharmacokinetic & pharmacodynamic profile. It is indicated for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections that includes Lower & Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Uncomplicated Skin Infections, Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases & Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases.
